Before the day gets loud

Morning prayers to start the day.

How the morning begins tends to shape the hours that follow. A short prayer is not about saying the right words—it is about turning toward God before the noise arrives. Below are a few short morning prayers and Scriptures to pray, and a five-minute guided way to begin in Renew.

Short morning prayers

Pray these slowly, or let them be a starting point for your own words. There is no wrong way to begin.

A prayer to begin the day

Father, before I reach for anything else, I turn to you. Thank you for this new morning and the breath to meet it. Go before me into the hours I cannot see, and keep my heart steady in you. Amen.

A prayer for a heavy or anxious morning

Lord, I wake already carrying tomorrow's weight. Take what I cannot hold. Quiet the racing thoughts, and let me trust you for this day alone. Be my strength where I feel none. Amen.

A prayer of gratitude

God, your mercies are new this morning. Thank you for another day to love and be loved by you. Make me aware of your kindness in small things, and let my life today point back to you. Amen.

Bible verses to pray in the morning

These are from the King James Version. Let one be your first words, spoken slowly.

“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Psalm 5:3, KJV
“It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed... they are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22–23, KJV
“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk.” Psalm 143:8, KJV
“O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” Psalm 90:14, KJV

How to build a simple morning rhythm

Even Jesus began the day this way: “in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out... and there prayed” (Mark 1:35). A morning rhythm does not need to be long to be real.

  1. Start before the scroll. Turn to God before the phone's noise. One minute counts.
  2. Name how you wake. Grateful, anxious, tired—tell God plainly. It is honest prayer.
  3. Pray one line of Scripture. Keep a few words, spoken slowly, rather than a chapter rushed.
  4. Hand over the day. Ask for what this day needs, and release what it does not.
  5. Let it be guided some mornings. On rushed days, use Renew's Daily Prayer so you can simply listen.

Why begin with the feeling?

Mornings rarely find us knowing exactly what to pray. Naming how you wake—grateful, anxious, weary—is an easier and more honest start. Renew uses that to offer a fitting passage and read it gently, keeping Scripture at the center of the day's first minutes.

Questions people ask

Morning prayer and Scripture

What is a good short morning prayer?

A good morning prayer is honest more than eloquent. Thank God for the day, hand him what you are carrying, and ask him to go before you. The three prayers above are simple places to start.

What does the Bible say about praying in the morning?

Scripture often ties prayer to the morning—Psalm 5:3, Psalm 143:8, and Jesus' own habit in Mark 1:35. The pattern is turning to God early, before the day fills up.
