When your strength runs low

Bible verses for encouragement and strength.

Some days ask for more than we have. Encouraging Scripture is not a way to pretend the weariness away—it is a place to set your weight down and remember who is holding you. Below is a small, honest collection to return to, and a gentle way to stay with one verse rather than skim them all.

Encouraging Bible verses for a weary season

These are drawn from the King James Version. Read slowly. You do not need all of them today—one, held long enough to believe again, is plenty.

When you need strength to keep going

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31, KJV
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9, KJV
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13, KJV

When you feel alone or afraid

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10, KJV
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6, KJV

When your heart is heavy

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18, KJV
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14, KJV

How to meditate on an encouraging verse

Collecting verses can quietly become another task—another list to get through. Encouragement tends to arrive not from reading many verses quickly, but from letting one have your attention.

  1. Choose one. Pick the verse that met you as you read, not the one you think you should choose.
  2. Read it slowly, twice. The second time, let one phrase stand out and stay there.
  3. Say it back to God. “You renew my strength.” “You are with me.” Make it a sentence you mean.
  4. Carry the phrase. Keep just those few words for the next hour instead of the whole passage.
  5. Return when you sink. Discouragement will come back. Come back to the phrase, not to the whole search.

This is the difference between a verse you scrolled past and one you actually heard. In Renew, choosing how you feel lets the app offer a fitting passage and read it aloud, so a single verse can settle rather than slip by.

Why start with the feeling?

When you are worn out, knowing exactly which verse you need is its own small burden. Naming the feeling—weary, discouraged, afraid, hopeful—is a more honest place to begin. Renew uses that starting point to choose a relevant passage, then makes room to hear it through narration and reflection, with the Scripture kept as the anchor.

Encouragement from Scripture is spiritual care, not a substitute for medical or mental-health support. If heaviness is persistent, severe, or worsening, that deserves help from a qualified professional.

Questions people ask

Encouragement, faith, and Scripture

What is the most encouraging verse in the Bible?

There is no single answer, because encouragement meets each person differently. Many return to Isaiah 40:31, Joshua 1:9, or Philippians 4:13. The best verse is usually the one you can stay with today.

How do I encourage myself with Scripture when I feel low?

Choose one short verse and meditate on it rather than gathering many. Read it slowly, keep one phrase in view, and speak it back to God as something true even when you do not feel it yet.

Does needing encouragement mean my faith is weak?

No. Scripture is full of weary, honest prayers. Needing encouragement is part of being human, not a spiritual failing.
